CCNB’s applied research and innovation centre, INNOV, took its first steps in 2005. At that time, the CCNB had observed a demand for industrial research and services in New Brunswick and had hired its first researcher to evaluate the potential.
This first step led to the development of three research divisions: the Advanced Manufacturing Division, the Advanced Materials Division and the Bioeconomy Division.
In 2008, CCNB joined Springboard Atlantic Inc, a network of universities and colleges with a mandate to support the commercialization of research in Atlantic Canada.
In 2009, CCNB reached a major milestone by becoming eligible for Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) grants.
In Research Infosource’s first ranking of Canada’s research colleges in 2011, CCNB’ research network was among the top 50 in terms of revenue. It has maintained a spot in this annual ranking every year since, including six times in the top 25.
In 2019, the Advanced Manufacturing division in Bathurst was admitted to the prestigious Tech-Access Canada and received the Technology Access Centre (TAC) designation by NSERC. This network is represented by 60 applied research centers in every Canadian province. We are the only representative in New Brunswick.
Over the years, INNOV has continued to grow and expand its reach, developing new partnerships and establishing itself as a driving force for innovation. It is proud to offer a range of services to key industries in New Brunswick, the Atlantic Provinces, and beyond, supporting applied research, access to technology and ultimately economic progress.
Currently, the group carries out over 60 contracts annually with private sector companies.
